Projects – Media Concepts

 1st Six Weeks

1.   Safety in the Studio – Power Point (Standards 7 and 11)

Homework Assignment – Homework Assignment - Safety Checklist for the TV studio based on the OSHA standards.

2.  Career Exploration – Power Point – Introduction to Power Point (Standards 7 and10)

3.  Project – “Mini Movie 1” – 1-2 minute video of your choice demonstrating the three phases of production and basic camera operation – Introduction to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 (Standards 1, 4, 5, and 6)

4.  Project – Space and Time Project – demonstrating video time and space. (Standards 1, 4, 5, and 6)

5.  Comparing/Contrasting Different Types of Media – Power Point – (Standard 3) Examples of each will be required.

2nd Six Weeks

1.   Project – Interview Doubles project  – Working on Camera Angles/Composition (Standards 1, 4, 5, and 6)

Homework Assignment - TV Interview – Watch and critique a television interview citing lighting, interviewer style, camera angles, etc.

2.   Ethics in Today’s Media – Power Point (Standard 9)

3.   Project – Commercial – Producing a commercial about a fictional product or service – Target Audience – 30 second video and 15 second audio version (Radio).  (Standards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8)

Homework Assignment - Commercial – Describe your favorite three commercials and describe what is appealing to you about the products.

Product Labeling – Introduction to Photoshop CS2 (Standard 2)

Homework Assignment - Product Labeling – Choose three products that you like and describe the impact the label has had on you. Explain your likes and dislikes of the label. 

Homework Assignment - Compare/Contrast what avenue is best for your product. What is the target audience for your product?

 4.  Project – Promo – Producing a promotional video about an actual school event – 30 second video, 1 picture promo for website, and 15 second audio version (Radio).  (Standards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8)

Product Labeling – Choose three products that you like and describe the impact the label has had on you. Likes and dislikes of the label

5.  Project – PSA – Public Service Announcement – 30 second video (English and one foreign language) and 15 second audio version (Radio). 

Homework Assignment - What are your favorite PSAs? Give examples of your favorite PSAs and what you like about them.

Homework Assignment - Factors for keeping/cancelling a program. What are some of the budget concerns for the program? What are some of the potential factors that could lead to cancelling the program? 

Chapters 5-10 – Video – Digital Communication & Production (Standard 2)

 

3rd Six Weeks

1.  Copyright Laws/Fair Use – Power Point (Standard 7)

 2.  Project – Music Video – Two minute music video using the fair use/copyright laws. (Standards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7)

Homework Assignment - Music and copyright laws for your favorite artist. 

3.  Project – Newscast – a three minute newscast with a factual lead story, weather, sports, and commercial break. You will use your commercial project as your commercial. Lead story must also be written for website and include a picture. Evaluation form will include role responsibilities and safety issues.  (Standards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7)

Homework Assignment - Newscast Analysis – Watch a local or national 30 minute news program. 

Homework Assignment – Conduct an opinion poll for use in you newscast.

Homework Assignment - Develop roles/responsibilities for a TV production staff on “The Spill.”

4.  Project – Newsletter – Classroom Project – Each class will produce its own classroom newsletter. Each “newspaper” will cover each of the following areas: news story with quotes documented, weather (an original graphic), sports, advertising of a school event, tips for the student, and an opinion poll with graphic. (Standards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7)

Homework Assignment - News Story – Write a new story about a school event, national event, or an event that happen to you last night.

5.  Project – “Mini Movie 2” – Produce a 3-5 minutes video of your choice. You must show all three phases of production. (Standards 1, 4, 5, and 6)

Newscast – Video vs. Film

Compare/Contrast differences in newspaper format to TV, magazine, video, and internet.  Student will provide examples of each.

2nd Six Weeks

TV Interview – Watch and critique a television interview citing lighting, interviewer style, camera angles, etc.

** Instructor will provide a detailed student evaluation form for each project.  Each form will have a specific evaluation form provided by the instructor.
